My friends and colleagues in Delhi often have one major complaint about the Bengali cuisine. Most of them consider Bongs to be meat hogging, fish eating carnivores. They are sly enough to point out that Bongs eat non-vegetarian food even during Durga Pujo and other auspicious occasions. They have this misconception that Bengali cuisine doesn’t have many options when it comes to vegetarian dishes. Clearly, their understanding of Bengali food is on a superficial level.

Sure, we love our Ilish Bhaja and Kosha Mangsho. But we also salivate at the thought of some piping hot aloo posto. Vegetarian dishes cooked in a Bengali household are as diverse and delicious as the non-vegetarian ones. Let’s take a look at some of them.
