Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wife, Jashodaben and some of her family members were travelling in an Innova, when it had a head on collision with a truck. The fatal accident occurred 55 kms from Chittorgarh, on the Kota-Chittor highway in Rajasthan. Jashodaben and her relatives were travelling from Atru in Bara towards Udaipur, when their Innova collided with a trailer truck at around 10 am on Wednesday.

Basant Bhai, one of the seven occupants of the car, died on the spot. Jashodaben, her bodyguard, another female relative and a five year old child suffered minor injuries. Their vehicle has been completely smashed.
Jashodaben was immediately rushed to Chittorgarh Hospital, where she is receiving treatment for her injuries. She is reported to be out of danger. The bodyguard and other injured relatives have been referred to a hospital in Udaipur. An enquiry has been launched to investigate the exact cause of the accident. The accused truck driver has been detained for the time being.
Narendra Modi’s wife has been estranged from him for a long time.
Their marriage was revealed to public only when the Prime Minister filed his nomination papers before the 2014 elections. They got married in 1967, when Modi was 17 years old. He left his wife after three years during which they stayed together only for a few months. Jashodaben has said that the split was amicable.
